Thornton to visit Georgia Tech this weekend
by Aaron on Oct.28, 2011, under News
Shadrach Thornton, 2012 UK commit, will visit Georgia Tech this weekend. Early in the recruiting process, Tech appeared to be the team to beat for his services. While Thornton committed to UK, it appears he is anything but solid. He recently visited Vanderbilt and came away impressed. James Franklin and his staff made a huge impression.
Right now I would give the advantage to Vandy to land his signature on signing day. Still, he will visit Georgia Tech this weekend and then sit down with his family to make his final decision. I am sure UK plans to make an in-home visit, but the Cats have their work cut out.

If you read this update by Michael Carvell of the AJC, it certainly sounds like Vandy is in the driver’s seat now. I’m not even considering Thornton a commitment to UK at this point.

Thanks for the link Rock_Cat. A lot can happen between now and signing day, but I agree with you that it appears UK is not likely to have Thornton in its 2012 signing class.

If we get him, that would be great. But, I NEVER did consider him a commitment. He started backing out before the words were even out of his mouth.

UK will never improve unless they start winning these battles. A committment from the UKAA would help.

Losing recruits to Vandy, can things get any worse? Has anyone heard if UK is hosting any recruits this weekend? I would think with the Blackout that Joker would have the stands full of recruits if possible.

The only thing worse would be getting drilled in Nashville this season. Think about that game.

Good point, Aaron.
Historically, we have always viewed the UofL game as having big recruiting implications. Now, the Vandy game becomes huge, even if we are out of bowl contention by then. A win in Nashville would go a long way towards righting some ills.

If Perdue is going to justify the faith Joker showed in him by elevating him from a high school coach to being an assistant on an SEC program, this recruit is the time to start doing so

JHB4UK, I agree 1000%. If this guy has all these great contacts it’s time to show it.

Well i think the only reason.the kid was even thinking about going to .U.K…was on a count of Perdue.and vandy coach Franklin is a great recuiter……and he is building a great class….according to mrsec.com and there s.e.c ranking,we are last in the s.e.c in recuiting class’s ………

Ga Tech will get mauled by Clemson this weekend! Good time for his visit.

Be careful….spread is 4. My Clemson buddies are worried about stopping the option.

Don’t forget how Georgia Tech stole a good one from UK 2 years ago in David Simms

Thornton is publicly committed to UK, so UK still has the advantage. No matter how much fun Thornton had at Vandy, there is a reason why he verballed to UK. No commitment is a lock until they sign, and almost every D-1 program loses commitments every year. Daryl Collins is a Cat today because he de-committed from Bama. If Thornton decides to de-commit, he won’t be the first or the last to do it. Life goes on.
